I am the eldest of three children raised by loving parents in Sydney’s west. Even though I excelled at school, I never had any desire for an academic future. I have three adult children. In 1992 I was involved in a motor vehicle accident whilst serving as a full-time member of the Australian Defence Force.
Immediately following the accident I had a lot of difficulty connecting with people, including my children. As a result, my marriage ended a few months after the accident. When I left, my children remained with my husband. It was at during this time that I met my current husband and in 1996 I re-married. Of my three children, my eldest son is the only one who chooses to remain in contact.
In 1997, I took discharge from the Defence Force and my husband and I moved to Perth. My physical injuries have slowly deteriorated over the years and I recently required major surgery. Due to my inability to recognise and accept my emotional instability earlier, I now find myself not only suffering only chronic pain, but also battling with depression and post-traumatic stress.
