Why would I use Boolarong Press?
Publishing houses with editorial and publicity departments are big companies these days. They must make money to survive and that means publishing what they think the market wants to read. Their customers are readers not authors. Of course, if a manuscript is accepted by a publishing company it is then out of the hands of the author. If you have listened to authors, many of them will tell you cover story horror stories, promotional activities they have had to do…and the guilt of the remaindered bin if the book doesn’t sell. And of course, there is the hard, brute truth that most authors only receive 10% of the cover price sale. The benefits big publishing companies have is that they continue to hold prestige through massive PR ventures, cocktail launches, and the best-selling list. But this may not always work out for the author. Boolarong Press helps get authors into print.  The author is our client.

Have books published by Boolarong Press been successful?
There have been successes, like Noel Whittaker’s "Making Money Made Simple", and we have discussed that reprints and financial reward are not the only reason to print your book. Titles published by presses like Boolarong Press have topped the Best-selling list – like The Celestine Prophecy. Of course, we are not saying that your book will be this successful, but if you have a manuscript and are thinking about publishing it, don’t forget that you have options.

If I use Boolarong Press, do I have to pay for it?
Yes you do. But you also receive all the income from the book, less the printing, distribution and promotion costs. Let’s explain it through an equation…

Where the income from a book published through a publishing company goes to:

Author
10%
Publishing company expenses
(salaries, printing, promotion, distribution + profit)
40-50%
Bookshop 40-50%
Total 100%

The income when published through Boolarong Press:

Author (less their expenses)

80%

Boolarong Press expenses
(printing and any other services expenses)

20% app
Total 100%

How can I increase sales or distribute my book?
Some books have a designated market and it’s not applicable or easy for publishing houses to promote books to these markets. Maybe you know your readers already? Maybe they are family and friends, people with the same interests, Associations, or a range of people who need your information. Boolarong Press also offers online promotions and sales through our online bookshop which makes the world a virtual bookshop. Additionally, we will give you advice on marketing plus distribution.

I’ve heard that books have to have an ISBN number. How do I do this?
Books do need an ISBN number so they can be catalogued. Boolarong will organise this for you. Information on topics like ISBN and copyright are held in our Authors Corner.

What is a saddle-stich? What sort of paper should I use?
These are technical questions. To make these decisions easier we have supplied information about the Printing Process for you. Some printing options are more expensive than others, some give a certain look. If you have any queries or would like to talk to us about your book, please contact us.

What happens once the book is printed?
Because Boolarong shows you a proof of the book and you approve the cover, we advise you on marketing and distribution issues, so as soon as the book is printed, it can be made available for sale. Why not look through our Authors’ Corner for further advice. Or you can go to our services to read more about what we do.
