History Queensland is Taking a Break

Well it’s been five years of publishing History Queensland and it’s time to have a break. I want to thank all the contributors from all over Queensland for their great stories. I have certainly learnt much about Queensland’s history through these enlightening tales. I want to thank those who purchased the magazine either through subscription or from an outlet. I also want to thank the outlets who gave us the support, in particular A&R at Brookside. This outlet sold more copies than any other in Queensland. We hope to be back in 2018. Good luck all. Dan Kelly

Journey to Beautiful by Sandy Skinner

One of Boolarong Press's adult colouring in books. #SandySkinner "Within the lines of black on white paper is all potential, well that is how I feel it as I draw pictures. Potential to be seen and interpreted is just there for the viewer to find, as much as it is for me. Introducing colour brings interpretation and emotion for a particular moment in time. It finds the story and points the way to a feeling or an idea. Every time an image has been coloured it has been coloured differently, the same thing happens, just quiet. Beauty is the wonderful gift of a happy quiet heart and this is my journey along the road to what I found. Welcome to the pages of my book. Each image has been drawn with loving intent by me and tells a part of my living from a sad place to wonderfully now. The impetus to draw again came as I was physically unwell and wanted a life that seemed happier than where I found myself. That place in life when you ask what it is you are doing and why it has turned out this way. I didn’t really have any answers to those questions and I wasn’t really sure if they were indeed the questions to ask. I just knew that I needed a different experience of life than the one I was having. And so, I began drawing again as part of my daily routine. That was over four years ago now. Drawing, painting, creating image is for me simply another way of speaking aloud or writing in paragraphs. It differs from words because I don’t have the experience of internal conversation as I create, instead I experience an internal impetus that feels like flowing forth and in the end there is a picture."
